Information Sheet – 2026

WELCOME

We welcome both new and experienced bowlers to the Club. We have qualified men and women coaches, all ‘new to the sport’ bowlers are automatically assigned to a coach who will give instruction on how to play, the rules and etiquette etc. After completing the course successfully, applicants are eligible for full membership of the Club.

DRESS CODE

For League & Representative Play.

Men: Regulation White shirt with collar. Regulation grey or white tailored (or sports) trousers / tailored shorts, as stated on match sheet

Ladies: Regulation White top with collar & sleeves. Regulation grey or white tailored (or sports) skirt, trousers, cropped trousers or shorts, as stated on match sheet

All other times including Stewarding and Roll Up

All: Regulation Whites above the waist and grey regulation tailored (or sports) trousers, skirt, shorts or cropped trousers.

Bowling shoes must be worn at all times when on the Green.

The Club’s official logo is encouraged, being applied to member’s apparel (details on request).

ORGANISED BOWLS PLAY

During the ‘outdoor’ season the Green is open for members to play from 10.00am until dusk every day provided the rinks are not being used for matches or competitions.  There are organised roll-ups for any member wishing to take part at the following times: Wednesday and Friday at 2.00pm onwards.

Members wishing to participate in a roll-up should arrive at the Clubhouse by 1.50pm and move their name tag from the board just inside the Clubhouse door and place it on the desk below.  After 2.00pm the tags are sorted into teams and displayed on the notice board on the other side of the Clubhouse door.  Names are on this board showing the team position and rink to be used. On Monday mornings the Ladies have a practice and playing session with all lady members welcome.  Name tags should be placed on the desk by 9.45am.  Monday afternoons at the beginning of the season is a Men’s playing session and name tags should be placed on the desk by 1.45pm.  A Monday afternoon men’s triples weekly league is run during the season.

LEAGUES

The Club participates in various outdoor bowls leagues and is affiliated to the New Forest Men’s Bowling Association, the Bournemouth & District Men’s Bowling Association, the New Forest Women’s Bowling Association, the Bournemouth & District Women’s Bowling Association, Bowls Hampshire and Bowls England.  We also play in the popular B&D mixed Saturday Triples League.  There is every possibility that at some stage you will be asked to play in one of the Clubs teams.

DUTIES

All Full Members are required to assist with the running of the Club. This is a condition of membership. This may include duty as a steward.  The duties are not onerous and never more than a half day, once a month in the playing season. Instruction is supplied by the Steward’s Organiser. Assistance will also be required with catering.  The main duties are assisting from time to time with the provision of refreshments on Club activity days.

Some members assist with the management of the Club, as Officers or as part of the Executive Committee.

All members are encouraged to join in with these roles.

NOTICE BOARDS

In the pavilion are various notice boards displaying general items as well as those specific to the men’s and ladies’ sections. On these notice boards all information about Club activities and competitions are displayed.   Because of the volume of information we display, members should refer to the boards on a regular basis.

WEBSITE

The Club operates an excellent website at www.milfordonseabowlsclub.org

The website is kept up to date and contains news and information on present and future competitions and activities. The Club uses email so as to efficiently and regularly communicate with members.  

SOCIAL EVENTS

During the year the Club arranges events such as coffee mornings, an Annual Lunch and during the outdoor season a number of bowls afternoons that include ‘grand’ teas etc  Social events are held throughout the year, details are displayed on the notice board, circularised by email, and posted on the website. Pre-booking is often required as for many events we have limited space. An informal Club Night is held on the 1st and 3rd Friday in the clubhouse where quizzes, bingo and other games are enjoyed by all members.

‘100 CLUB’

This provides participating Club members with the opportunity to win cash prizes. Entry for the following year’s 14 draws is open until March 31st.

CLUB MATCHES

Matches with touring teams are held during the season and details of these will appear on the notice board.   When you feel confident with your bowling, you should consider putting your name down on the lists asking for participants.  A Club Year Book, which lists matches and dates of our special days during the current season is provided to all members at the beginning of the season.

SHORTMAT BOWLS

During the outdoor ‘closed’ season the Club runs shortmat bowling in the pavilion with morning and afternoon sessions on most days. Playing members and associates of the Club are eligible to fully participate in shortmat bowling. Session fees do apply for this activity. Separate shortmat membership can be applied for.    

LOCKERS

There are lockers which members can rent and these are situated in the Pavilion changing rooms. The lockers are for storing personal possessions but NO LIABILITY CAN BE ACCEPTED BY THE CLUB FOR ANY LOSSES.  At the present time, locker rental is £5.00 per season with a deposit of £5.00 being required for the locker key.

MEMBERSHIP FEES

The membership fee for new members for the 2026 season is £145.00. There is no joining fee. Coaching is free.
