Milford on Sea Bowls Club, situated on Hurst Road in Milford-on-Sea, Hampshire, was established in 1933. The club's inaugural event took place on June 21, 1933, when the Mayor of Lymington initiated play by rolling a silver jack down the newly created green. At that time, the dress code was formal, with men in suits and trilby hats, and women in long dresses and bonnets. The first Club President was Lt Col. W Clemson DSO.
During the Second World War, the club operated under a "Wednesday afternoon only" rule for safety reasons. Initially, membership was restricted to men, with a few partners assisting with teas. This began to change during the war years, as women became regular players on the green. In 1947, Milford Bowls Club became one of the founding members of the New Forest Bowling Association. The current pavilion was constructed in 1987.
The club celebrated its 90th anniversary on 21st June 2023, with a series of events, including a drinks reception for VIPs and dignitaries, invitation matches with local clubs, a fun bowls game, and a hog roast with entertainment in a marquee set up on the seafront green. The celebrations continued until June 2025, featuring matches against local clubs and a friendly against Clevedon Promenade Bowls Club, which was also celebrating its 90th anniversary.
Today, Milford on Sea Bowls Club offers a picturesque seafront location for its members to enjoy bowls and participate in social events. The club's green comprises six rinks and provides stunning views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight and the Needles. The outdoor playing season runs from early April to late September, with club roll-ups on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. The club participates in the New Forest and Bournemouth & District Leagues, and during the winter months, members engage in indoor short mat bowls.
